The three ways a device gets connected

1. Username and password. The most common. You type both into a player along with a server address.
2. An activation or pairing code. A short string you enter on the device, or on a web page, to link that device to a subscription. It saves typing a long URL on a remote control.
3. A MAC address. The device's own hardware identifier, registered at the service end so the box is recognised without a login. Covered here.

A service uses one of these, sometimes two. If you were given a code and the app is asking for a username, you either have the wrong app or the wrong kind of details — and no amount of retyping will fix it.

Codes expire, and that is normal

Pairing codes are usually short-lived on purpose — often minutes. That is a security feature, not a fault. If yours has expired, generate or request another; do not conclude the subscription is broken.

Why “free codes” are a trap

Search results and videos promising free activation codes are one of three things, in our experience: dead links that harvest ad revenue from the click; a form that harvests your details; or someone else's stolen credentials, which stop working the moment the real owner notices. None of them is a working subscription, and the second is the expensive one.

When a code will not activate

• Check it has not expired. Request a fresh one first — it is the answer surprisingly often.
• Check the characters. Zero and O, one and l, five and S. Codes are usually case-sensitive.
• Check you are on the right screen. Entering a pairing code in a playlist field fails identically to a wrong code.
• Check the device is online. An offline device shows an activation error, not a network one, on a surprising number of players.
• Check who issued it. If it came from another seller, only they can reissue it. We cannot, and nobody else can either.

Keep your details private

Credentials and codes are worth money, which is why they get shared and resold. Sharing yours usually means both of you get locked out when the connection limit is hit. Do not post them in forums, comments or group chats — not even a screenshot with “part of it” hidden.
