A lot of people search for an APK. Here is what one is, what happens when you install a video app from a website you have never heard of, and what to do instead.
We do not host, link to or send application files of any kind. Not by download, not by WhatsApp, not on request. If a seller offers you one, that is a reason to be careful, not a service.
What an APK actually is
An APK is the installer file for an Android application — the equivalent of a .exe on Windows. Installing one from outside an app store is called sideloading. Android allows it, which is a genuine strength of the platform and also the single biggest way people get caught out.
What you are trusting when you sideload
An app from Google Play has been through automated checks, is signed by an identifiable developer, updates itself, and can be pulled if it turns out to be malicious. A file from a random website has had none of that. Once installed it can, depending on the permissions it asks for:
- watch what else you do on the device;
- talk to other things on your home network;
- show adverts over other apps, or quietly load pages you never see;
- keep running after you think you have closed it;
- update itself into something different from what you installed.
And the device it is on is a television or a stick: no antivirus, rarely updated, permanently connected, and not something most people ever think to wipe.
The specific trap in this market
Search any IPTV brand name plus “APK” and you will find download sites that have nothing to do with the brand. Some serve the real app with something added. Some serve an app that simply harvests whatever credentials you type into it. The name in the search box tells you nothing about who is on the other end of the download, and a file called supa-legacy.apk can contain literally anything.
What to do instead
- Install an established player from your device's own store. Google Play, the Amazon Appstore, the App Store, your television's own store. How to pick one.
- Get the subscription separately. The app is the player; the subscription is the access. Any decent player works with any decent subscription.
- Keep the two in your head as separate things. It makes every future problem easier to diagnose.
“But my box has no Play Store”
Some very cheap boxes ship without Google services, which is usually a sign of what else was cut. You have three options, in the order we would take them: use a different device (a £30 stick with a proper store); use the manufacturer's own store if it is a recognised brand; or accept that you are taking a risk that we are not going to help you take. We would rather lose the sale.
If you have already installed one
- Uninstall it, then check the device's app list for anything you do not recognise.
- Change any password you typed into it — especially if you reused it elsewhere.
- If the device is old and you cannot account for what is on it, factory-reset it. On a £30 stick that is twenty minutes; on a smart TV it is worth the afternoon.

Questions people ask
Will you send me the APK if I ask nicely?
No. It is not a policy we bend, and it is not because we are protecting a download — we genuinely do not distribute software.
Is sideloading illegal?
Installing an app outside a store is not in itself unlawful. The question is always what the specific app does and where it came from. We are talking about safety here, not legality.
The official app is not on Google Play. Is that suspicious?
Not necessarily — store policies exclude plenty of legitimate software. It does mean you lose every protection the store provides, so the bar for trusting the source should go up accordingly.
What about APK sites that scan for viruses?
A scan proves the file did not match known signatures on the day it was uploaded. It does not prove the file is what it claims to be, and it says nothing about the update it downloads next week.
